On March 2, Clare Crawley, 38, was revealed as the next lead of ABC’s “The Bachelorette.” Crawley appeared on “Good Morning America” to make the announcement and share her thoughts on starring in the show’s 16th season.

Crawley is a Sacramento native with a career as a hairstylist. This will be her fifth appearance in a “Bachelor” franchise show.

Crawley made her debut on the 18th season of “The Bachelor” back in 2014, which starred Juan Pablo Galavis. She finished as the season’s runner-up after getting into a heated argument with Galavis. Crawley went on to appear in seasons 1 and 2 of “Bachelor in Paradise” and “Bachelor Winter Games” in 2018.

Crawley met Canadian Benoit Beauséjour-Savard while they were contestants on “Winter Games,” and he proposed during the show’s finale. However, they ended their engagement shortly after in April 2018.

Prior to Crawley, Rachel Lindsay, lead of season 13, was the oldest “Bachelorette” at age 32. Crawley, who is 38, is set to take that title from her.

“A lot of people put it out there as this negative thing, but for me, it just is more years under my belt, more learning and knowing what I want, what I don’t want and what I won’t settle for,” she said about her age to “Good Morning America.”

Fans of the show had mixed reactions to the casting of an older “Bachelorette.”

Supporters praised ABC for casting an older lead who they hope will be more mature and ready for love.

Many fans are looking forward to a more mature lead.

Critics expressed concern about how many times Crawley has been on a “Bachelor” franchise show unsuccessfully or that a mature lead will mean a boring season.

Other fans worry a mature lead won’t produce the drama that draws them to the show.

Casting for “The Bachelorette” happened as Peter Weber’s season of “The Bachelor” is set to wrap up on March 9 and 10 as the finale airs.

Filming for season 16 of “The Bachelorette” is scheduled to begin on March 13, and the show will air beginning in May.

Fans can stream the show via DirectTV, Amazon Video, Hulu, and more.
